Highly detailed 1/32 scale assembly model kit of the Junkers Ju 88, a World War II twin-engine medium bomber of the German Luftwaffe. Developed in 1936 for the then emerging German Luftwaffe by Junkers, the Ju 88 was intended as a Schnellbomber ("high speed bomber") that was capable of eluding enemy fighter-interceptors en-route to its target and return to base safely. By the beginning of World War II however, it was clear to Luftwaffe planners that fighter-aircraft development had clearly caught-up with the Schnellbomber concept and the idea of Ju 88s out-running dedicated fighter aircrafts such as the Spitfire seemed far-fetched. Although it never did out-ran Allied single engine fighters such as the Spitfire and Mustang as Luftwaffe planners had hoped, the Junkers 88 did evolved into one of the most versatile multi-mission aircraft of the Second World War. Ju 88s were used by the Luftwaffe to perform a wide variety of missions that include bomber, dive-bomber, maritime attack bomber, heavy-fighter, and even as a flying-warheads in "Mistel" (Mistletoe) missions where Ju 88 fitted with an immense shaped charge in its nose compartment were attached to an Fw 190 and launched as a flying bomb. By war's end, some 15,000 Ju 88s of all variants were built, a testament to the type's superb adaptability and usability.
